Gentlemen:
If you’ve ever been on a long road trip on that big interstate highway, every so often you need to take a pit stop.
Time for bathroom breaks, get some “trip snacks,” fill up the tank. You know the drill.
And if it’s one of those big truck stops or an “oasis,” there’s always that big framed map outside the bathroom, with a bright red arrow on the map, that says . . .
>>YOU ARE HERE<<
This arrow on the map is a checkpoint for you to confirm that you’re on the right track, and to remind yourself how far you still have to go for your destination.
Or, it prompts you to consider where your next pit stop will be.
Sometimes it’s a reminder to see just how far you’ve driven up to that point.
In my view, we ALL need this in “real life” as well.
Every so often, “pulling off the road” to do some reflecting.
Where are we on the map of LIFE? Are we on track?
Or, have we gotten on in a confusing web of side roads, taking the “scenic route,” and now we need to do some next-level navigation to get back on track.
Perhaps we’ve forgotten our destination! Not likely to happen on a road trip, but it happens all the time in life.
And then sometimes we discover we’re actually clear on our destination, HOWEVER, that destination is out of alignment with some core parts of who we are (eg, our core values).
